The waters off the coast of Oak Island & Bald Head Island make up some of the most spectacular natural fisheries on the east coast! There are a lot of hard fighting game fish within a very short ride from our beaches and they provide our anglers with a cooler full of great tasting fish, and charter fishing memories that will last a lifetime.
Our nearshore fishing trips are a great introduction to saltwater fishing. We are docked in downtown Southport at the mouth of the Cape Fear River. Angry Pelican Charters is able to provide our charter fishing customers with the maximum fishing time available with lines in the water only minutes after leaving the dock.
Nearshore Fishing Charters just off the beaches of our beautiful island are the perfect place to target Spanish Mackerel, King Mackerel, Red Drum, Sharks, and Cobia just to name a few.
At Angry Pelican Charters our goal is providing nearshore and offshore fishing adventures at the most affordable prices available. Our charter fishing customers know that whether we are trolling the latest hot spot for Mahi or Mackerel, or jigging for bottom dwellers over structure, we go out of our way to fill the fish box each and every trip.

Whether you’re a beginner or a well seasoned angler, a day of deep sea fishing offers you and your party a great chance to see some awesome marine life in it’s natural habitat. It’s a chance to fill your cooler and your scrapbook with memories that will last the entire family a lifetime. We are experienced fisherman who share in your excitement every time we hook up the catch, and working with younger anglers on their maiden voyage for offshore adventures. Fishing is always a rewarding experience for all.
We’ll be trolling for Mahi, King Mackerel, Sailfish and Tuna and/or targeting bottom dwellers including big Amberjack, Bass, Cobia, Snapper and Grouper.

Shark Fishing Charters Oak Island / Bald Head Island
Do one on one battle with the ocean’s most feared predators aboard the Angry Pelican! Long Bay and the Cape Fear River provide our anglers with one of the most exciting opportunities to get up close and personal with some of the largest sharks on the east coast. These waters are home to Tiger sharks, Bull sharks, Hammerheads and a variety of reef sharks. Shark fishing charters are mainly catch and release, but there are some very tasty species we can take home for dinner. This is a nearshore fishing trip so your party will never be out of sight of land and prices start at only $450.00.

Oak Island Charter Fishing Boat
Our May Craft Pilothouse provides our anglers with the most comfortable and spacious fishing platform that Oak Island, Bald Head Island, and Southport have to offer! She seats 6 comfortably out of the weather and has a private marine head. Our anglers enjoy a large cockpit to fight fish, 50 gallon live well, full transom fish box, and the latest in Garmin Electronics. This vessel is equipped with EPIRB, life raft, and Horizon VHF radio. Re-Powered in 2023, our brand new 200 horsepower Yamaha Outboards make short work of getting from the dock to the fishing grounds.
Fishing Trip FAQ’s & Information
The Angry Pelican departs daily from Morning Star/Southport Marina, 606 W. West St. Southport, North Carolina.
All gear, Ice, Bait, and Tackle are included in rates.
A deposit is required to book your trip. For weather related postponements, we will make every effort to reschedule your trip, or refund your deposit in full.
FAQ’s
Can we be picked up directly from Bald Head Island?
- Yes, we will pick your group up at the dock in front of the Marina Office. There is a dock fee charged by BHI for this service.
Do I need a fishing license?
- No, your charter fishing trip is covered by a blanket license.
Do we accept Credit Cards?
- We gladly accept deposit payments via PayPal. The balance for your trip is due in cash the day of your charter trip. Please note if you choose to pay the remaining balance with a credit card via PayPal, there will be an additional 3.5% fee.
What should I bring aboard?
- Please bring whatever you would like to eat and drink, along with any medications you may need, please let us know of any medical problems prior to departure. To maximize your fishing space, we provide coolers for your food and drinks. You might also want to bring along a hat, sunglasses, non-slip/ non-marking shoes and rub on sunscreen…please no spray on before getting on the boat or while aboard. We are not responsible for any lost or broken items you bring aboard.
Fish cleaning?
- Limited fish cleaning services are available on our half day trips so please bring a cooler to take your catch home in. Full day trips cleaning is $1.00/lb.
What happens to my deposit money if we can’t go because of poor weather conditions?
- If the captain cancels your trip due to weather or sea conditions, your deposit will be promptly refunded in full.
